National Pharmacy Technician Training Program now APPROVED in Massachusetts!
01-Apr-2010
The Massachusetts Board of
Registration in Pharmacy (Board) accepted a motion to formally approve
the Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians’ (ICPT)
National Pharmacy Technician Training Program (“Training Program”).
The Massachusetts
requirements for technician application and registration require
technicians to complete a board-approved training program and pass a
board-approved exam. The Board had already approved ICPT’s Exam for the
Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) which, when passed,
grants technicians the designation of Certified Pharmacy Technician
(CPhT).
The Training Program, now in its 7th
edition, addresses comments from pharmacists, technicians, employers
and schools who asked for more information on pharmacology, disease
states, medical terminology, sterile and nonsterile compounding.
In addition,
at the request of employers, ICPT’s program introduces three levels of
training. The first level of training introduces basic concepts such as
those that would be addressed during on-boarding of a technician. The
second level of information is designed to prepare a technician for
national certification. The third level of information covers material
that helps technicians further their career beyond that of national
certification.
The new The National Pharmacy Technician Training Program-7th Edition is available at www.nationaltechexam.org. The manual retails for $60 but is available for an introductory offer of $52 plus shipping and handling.
About ICPT
The Institute for the Certification of
Pharmacy Technicians (ICPT), now a part of NHA an ATI Company,
publishes a pharmacy technician training manual and sponsors the Exam
for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT). ICPT’s mission
is to help ensure that pharmacy technicians who assist pharmacists in
the preparation of prescriptions possess a minimum knowledge base or
competency. The National Community Pharmacists Association and the
National Association of Chain Drug Stores support the training program
and recognize the ExCPT as a psychometrically sound pharmacy technician
certification exam. The exam is offered in all 50 states and the
District of Columbia.
