ADHD Patch: A Step Closer to Approval

A panel of experts has recommended government approval of the first skin patch designed to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children ages 6 to 12 years old. The committee unanimously backed the product, known as Daytrana, although the FDA had earlier expressed concern that its benefits did not outweigh its risks.

The experts also unanimously urged that the patch only be prescribed to kids who can't take pills. The FDA is not required to follow the recommendation of its advisors, but usually does.
