1. Applicant must request and submit an application ($35) from the state board.
2. Applicants must attain a high school diploma or a GED.
3. Criminal background check is required.
* Technicians must receive a certificate by the board before working as a technician.

Use of The National Pharmacy Technician Training Program is optional.

The technician-to-pharmacist ratio is 2:1; not including pharmacy interns counted as either supportive personnel or pharmacists. Also excluded from the count of supportive personnel are those persons whose functions are not related to the preparation or distribution of medication. Such persons include clerks, secretaries, messengers, and delivery personnel.

Yes
Certification is completely voluntary. Nevertheless, ExCPT certification provides national recognition of your knowledge and skills and may make you more marketable.
