Requirements: [Sec. 20-576-32. Pharmacy technicians. Definitions]

1. Applicant must submit an application ($50) to the pharmacy board within 30 days of commencing training.

2. Applicant must complete a board-approved training program.

Renewal
Required

$25 annually by March 31st.

Training
Required

Pharmacy manager is responsible for administering a training program and is responsible for maintaining records. Training shall include but not be limited to:

1. On-the-job training

AND

2. Education of technicians’ responsibilities.

[CT Board Reg. 20-576-37] Pharmacy technicians may use The National Pharmacy Technician Training Program together with appropriate supervision of practical experience.

Ratio

The technician-to-pharmacist ratio is 2:1, however the ratio may be increased to 3:1 if:

1. The pharmacy prepares sterile products, dispenses unit doses and does bulk compounding

OR

2. One of the three technicians is certified by a board-approved program.

Continuing Education
Required

The pharmacist manager shall assure the continued competency of pharmacy technicians through continuing in-service training designed to supplement initial training. [CT Board Reg. 20-576-37]

Can the ExCPT be Taken?
Yes

The ExCPT has been approved by the Connecticut Commission of Pharmacy.
