Required

Requirements: [ND Prac Act 61-02-07.1-07]

1. Applicant must complete a pharmacy training program

2. Applicant must submit an application ($35) to the pharmacy board.

(The technician may register as a technician-in-training for two years while completing the required training outlined by the board.)

Renewal
Required

Applicant must submit a renewal application ($35) to the pharmacy board annually by March 1st.

Training
Required

Training is required to become a registered technician in the state of North Dakota. Training can be completed as outlined in the regulations. Technicians must successfully complete:

1. A board-approved academic program

OR

2. An on-the-job training program that is directed by the pharmacist-in-charge and approved by the board of pharmacy.

Ratio

The technician-to-pharmacist ratio is 3:1 in retail settings and 4:1 in hospitals or closed-door pharmacy settings.

Continuing Education
Required

Technicians are required to complete 20 hours of approved pharmacy technician CE every two years. [ND Prac Act 61-02-07.1-10]

Can the ExCPT be Taken?
N/A

Certification is completely voluntary. Nevertheless, ExCPT certification provides national recognition of your knowledge and skills and may make you more marketable. Current technicians registered after January 1, 1995 must attain national certification by Marcy 1, 2014.  Those registered before January 1, 1995 will be grandfathered..
