Required

Requirements: [WAC 246-901-030]

1. Applicant must achieve a high school diploma or a GED.

2. Applicant must provide evidence of successfully completing a training program.

3. Applicant must submit proof of HIV/AIDS training.

4. Applicant must apply for certification ($50) from the board of pharmacy.

Renewal
Required

Applicant must submit a renewal application ($35) to the pharmacy board annually on or before his/her birthday.

Training
Required

Training can be completed one of two ways. [WAC 246-901-030] and [WAC 246-901-050]

1. Formal academic program

Or

2. On-the-Job Training

Training must be completed at a board-approved training program which includes 520 hours of combined lecture, discussion, and testing. Of the 520 hours, at least eight hours must be devoted to studying Washington Pharmacy Law.

Ratio

The technician-to-pharmacist ratio is 3:1. The pharmacy may petition the board to exceed the current ratio. [WAC 246-901-130]

Continuing Education
Required

As of July, 2011 the Board will begin the process of promulgating rules.

 

Can the ExCPT be Taken?
N/A

The Washington Board of Pharmacy will certify a pharmacy technician upon completion of a board-approved pharmacy technician traing program and proof of passing a board-approved national standardized pharmacy technician certification examination. The ExCPT is recognized by the Washington Board of Pharmacy. .
