A Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) performs supportive tasks in medical group practices, clinics, and medical insurance companies. Transcribing and editing medical letters and reports are other CMT responsibilities. A CMT may perform some or all of the following duties. However, is not limited to just these responsibilities: 

• Listen to recordings by physicians dictating a variety of medical reports with the use of a transcripting machine
• Transcribing dictated reports and translate medical infromation and abbreviations into their expanded forms
• Edit as necessary and return reports in either printed or electronic form to the dictator for review and signature or correction
