A Certified Medical Laboratory Assistant (CMLA) performs important but less complex tests and procedures than a technologist. The CMLA may perform some or all of the following duties. However, they are not limited to just these responsibilities:

• Examine and analyze body fluids
  
• Analyze the chemical content of fluids
  
• Prepare culture media used to develop vaccines
  
• May examine blood stock
  
• May use testing procedures to analyze blood, urine, and other physical samples from patients bodies that help to determine if a person has an illness or other medical problem such as infection, disease, virus, or some sort of genetic malady
